Power and energy management with DC busbar
For vessels with DC powered consumers such as variable-speed bow and stern thrusters, it can be advantageous to use a DC bus architecture: With DC power as your backbone, you do not need to add converters to power DC consumers. This reduces equipment purchase price and energy losses during conversion.
Integrating batteries and fuel cells is also far easier with a DC-based architecture. You save money, space, and energy because you can dispense with power converters, and batteries in particular helps you run gensets more efficiently, save fuel, and reduce emissions.
DEIF controllers like the iE Marine or PPM 300 can control every DC energy source on your ship, plus all associated breakers. The controllers can be interconnected in a power and energy management system (PMS/EMS) that ensures the load demand is always being met in the most fuel-efficient way possible. In addition, the networked controllers ensure that the system stays operational even if one controller should fail.
DEIF iE Convert power converters help you feed the DC busbar from AC power sources and supply power for AC consumers such as instruments, processing equipment, and lighting from the busbar. Our compact power converters waste little energy as heat, reducing cooling demand and increasing overall system efficiency. In addition, they produce little electrical noise in the form of harmonics and ripple.
In addition to controllers and power converters, DEIF offers a full range of meters, protection relays, bridge instruments, and switchboard equipment – every device you need for a complete DC control solution.
